Our mobile medical clinics (MMC) offer a chance at life in the most unlikely of places. By meeting women where they are, we can offer immediate assistance and build relationships that empower them to make life-affirming decisions. This is what happened to Michelle and her partner Jason as they came upon our MMC in a Lowe’s parking lot.
Our Mobile Medical Clinic’s Travel
Our mobile medical clinics don’t just park outside of abortion clinics. Many times, they are parked in what seems like random locations but end in divine appointments with the women who need support. This women’s clinic parked its mobile medical clinic an hour away from its brick-and-mortar center. The MMC was parked in a Lowe’s parking lot in Junction, Texas. Michelle noticed it and decided to check it out.
A History of Abortion and Miscarriage
Michelle, in her mid-twenties, had faced significant challenges in her life. She had an abortion in 2019, followed by a heartbreaking miscarriage, and delivered her first child prematurely at 30 weeks due to low amniotic fluid. With a less-than-high-school education and a low-paying job, Michelle’s circumstances were anything but easy. Each of these realities factored into her decision to choose life or abort.
Still, our MMC showed Michelle that there is no circumstance without hope.
The Care She Needs in Our Mobile Medical Clinic
When Michelle and Jason entered the MMC, they were greeted with empathy and support. After performing a medical-grade pregnancy test, the team confirmed that Michelle was pregnant. This news, while initially overwhelming, became a turning point for the couple. They expressed their desire to parent this baby.
The staff at the MMC provided comprehensive support. They discussed prenatal care and the development of the baby and introduced Michelle to resources like WIC and SNAP. They also offered classes at the pregnancy center and provided a “Woman’s Right to Know” brochure. Michelle received a new mom’s goodie bag filled with prenatal vitamins and a verification of pregnancy, which would be vital for her prenatal appointments.
An Ultrasound In Our Mobile Medical Clinic
Two weeks later, Michelle returned to the MMC for a limited OB ultrasound. At this appointment, staff were able to confirm an intrauterine pregnancy, visualize a fetal heartbeat, and get a measurement of the baby. Michelle and Jason were excited and relieved to see a heartbeat and know her pregnancy was progressing well.
Staff discussed the handouts “How Fathers Can Support Pregnancy” and “Morning Sickness.” The nurse also encouraged them to seek prenatal care as soon as possible, and Michelle explained they were being approved for Medicaid.
Mobile Medical Clinics Are Making a Difference with Support
We are grateful that Michelle and Jason found the MMC in the Lowe’s parking lot that day. Because of this chance encounter and the clinic’s ability to travel, the staff provided support to show Michelle that there are other options. Michelle and Jason’s story is a testament to the impact of meeting women where they are. Our MMCs provide the resources they need to choose life confidently.
If Michelle’s story inspired you, consider supporting our mission. Your contributions help us keep our mobile medical clinics on the road, reaching more women like Michelle to provide the care and support they need.
