Nonprofit works to equip doctors and pregnancy health clinics with resources and support as debate over abortion training intensifies
PLANO, Texas — As National Doctors’ Day approaches on March 30, Save the Storks is drawing attention to physicians who provide compassionate, life-affirming care to women facing unexpected pregnancies.
The national nonprofit dedicated to supporting women and families says the observance provides an opportunity to recognize physicians who prioritize holistic care while navigating increasing pressure within the medical community to treat abortion as standard healthcare.
Recent developments in medical education underscore the challenge. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists requires abortion training as a standard part of OB‑GYN education, though physicians may opt out for moral or religious reasons.
Save the Storks says its work focuses on equipping physicians, pregnancy health clinics and mobile medical clinics with the tools needed to provide compassionate, life‑affirming care to women who may feel pressured or misinformed about abortion. The organization also seeks to expand conversations inside the medical community about ethical responsibilities and the importance of supporting both mothers and unborn children through evidence‑based care.
Dr. Karysse J Hutson, FACOOG, an obstetrician & gynecologic surgeon, is Save the Storks National Medical Director. In a recent blog, she wrote about the need for responsible, life-affirming medical practices.
“As an advocate for elevating women’s healthcare, I firmly believe in supporting all mothers on their journey,” Dr. Hutson wrote. “I want to empower mothers to make informed decisions that prioritize their own well‑being and the life of their unborn child. Providing holistic support and compassionate care is a pillar of my patient‑centered approach.”
“Unfortunately, many pregnancy centers are not medically certified, making them subject to ridicule from the pro‑abortionist movement. Save the Storks actively works to fix this problem. Our dedication to women’s healthcare and our innovative and forward‑thinking approach sets us apart as true pioneers in the field of advancing maternal child healthcare and calling pregnancy centers to rise to become true clinics.” Dr. Hutson added.
Dr. Hutson is working on solutions to enhance the medical reputation of these centers.
“To achieve this, I’ve assembled a Medical Advisory Board consisting of medical professionals from across the nation,” said Dr. Hutson. “Together, we reinforce vigorous policies and procedures, ensuring that our partners deliver excellence in patient care. I assist more than 100 partners in enhancing their clinical standards to provide gold‑standard healthcare.”
Save the Storks CEO Diane Ferraro said National Doctors’ Day is a moment to recognize physicians who serve women with compassion while remaining committed to life‑affirming care.
“National Doctors’ Day is a time to thank physicians who courageously care for both mothers and their unborn children,” Ferraro said. “Across the country, doctors working with pregnancy health clinics and mobile medical clinics are demonstrating that women deserve accurate information, compassionate care and real support during an unexpected pregnancy.”
Save the Storks highlights stories of physicians whose perspectives have changed over time, including OB‑GYN Dr. Catherine Wheeler, who once performed abortions before later becoming an advocate for the sanctity of life. Wheeler’s journey reflects the organization’s belief that honest conversations about abortion, medicine and women’s health can lead to transformation within the medical community.
The organization also publishes educational resources addressing questions about abortion procedures, maternal care and reproductive health. Save the Storks says the goal is to provide clear medical information so women can understand both the risks and the alternatives available to them.
Save the Storks exists to ensure that no woman facing an unplanned pregnancy ever feels alone. Save the Storks is a national nonprofit dedicated to empowering women with compassionate care, accurate information, and practical support so they can make informed, life-affirming decisions. Through partnerships with pregnancy health clinics, a growing network of mobile medical clinics delivering women’s healthcare directly to communities in need, and a digital platform providing always-on access to real care and real options, Save the Storks creates a story of hope for women and families across the nation.
