‘I love mobile ministry because you can meet a woman at the crossroads of her decision. It’s about giving her space to see clearly and move forward with confidence,’ says Mobile Medical Clinic Manager, Pam Daugherty
PLANO, Texas — Save the Storks marks Abortion Recovery Awareness Month this April by highlighting the ongoing need for compassionate, accessible care for women facing unplanned pregnancies, while sharing a powerful story of healing and hope.
Throughout the month, Save the Storks spotlights its mission to provide free ultrasounds, pregnancy tests and real-time support through its nationwide network of more than 100 mobile medical clinics. The organization partners with Pregnancy Health Clinics to bring care directly to women at critical moments of decision.
Central to this year’s focus is the story of Pam Daugherty, Save the Storks’ mobile health clinic manager, whose own experience with abortion as a teenager now shapes how she serves women facing unplanned pregnancies.
At 17, Daugherty discovered she was pregnant and felt overwhelmed by fear, pressure and uncertainty about her future. She was warned against seeking help from Pregnancy Health Clinics and instead went to an abortion clinic. For nearly 30 years, she kept her experience a secret, fearing judgment and rejection.
“The second I had my abortion, my body went into trauma,” Daugherty said. “There’s no going back. There’s no undoing it.”
Over time, Daugherty recognized that many women face similar fears, isolation and conflicting information when navigating an unexpected pregnancy. Today, she works on the front lines as part of Save the Storks mobile ministry, helping deliver care directly to women in need.
“I love mobile ministry because you can meet a woman at the crossroads of her decision,” Daugherty said. “It’s about giving her space to see clearly and move forward with confidence.”
Save the Storks’ pregnancy health clinic partners operate mobile medical clinics designed to meet women where they are, both physically and emotionally, particularly in underserved communities. These clinics provide no-cost services and support, offering women time and information to consider their options.
While public discussions around abortion often center on policy and politics, Save the Storks emphasizes keeping women’s needs at the forefront — recognizing how personal and immediate these decisions are. Many women still encounter pressure, confusion and limited access to trustworthy care.
“You’re not alone,” Daugherty said. “You have time. You have options. And there are people who care about you and your future.”
Diane Ferraro, CEO of Save the Storks, said the organization’s work is focused on ensuring women are met with compassion, dignity and practical support during pivotal moments.
“Every woman deserves to be seen, heard and supported with accurate information and compassionate care, especially in moments of uncertainty,” Ferraro said. “Through our mobile medical clinics and partnerships with Pregnancy Health Clinics, we are committed to meeting women where they are and ensuring they never feel alone.”
Daugherty’s journey from silence to advocacy reflects the broader purpose of Abortion Recovery Awareness Month, which seeks to bring attention to the emotional and psychological impact many women experience after abortion, while connecting them with paths toward healing. Her message to women facing unplanned pregnancies is rooted in empathy and experience, emphasizing that they are not alone and that support is available.
